Here we are in Week 2 of National Ice Cream Month. I hope you are taking full advantage of the excuse to indulge regularly in some creamy delight. If you need some new ideas, here are 2 area ice cream shops, both highly recommended:

MIGHTY MOO
This ice cream shop is in Youngtown (on 111th between the 60 and Peoria Ave.) and is a neighborhood favorite. Families from Youngtown frequent it as do seniors from Sun City which is right across the street. Just 5 minutes after opening one afternoon, there were already 4 different sets of customers in line. Everyone walked out satisfied, cooled off, and happy!

They have a Roasted Strawberry ice cream that is delicious as well as many others, some mainstream, some unique. For a year or so they were closed but earlier this year, just in time for the warm weather, they re-opened, as good as ever. Handy links at Facebook and Yelp.

CINNABON SWIRL
There are not very many of them so we are all quite lucky to have one just a short drive away. North Peoria boasts a Cinnabon Swirl - a joint venture between Carvel soft serve ice cream and Cinnabon cinnamon rolls. The bright, modern shop and amazing treats are waiting for you in the same shopping center as Aldi on Lake Pleasant Pkwy.

It’s a tough job but someone has to do the ice cream research. It was my first visit and I was immediately drawn to the Bonnini. So much so that as soon as I had the serving of sticky, warm, but also cold, deliciousness in my hands, I immediately ate it and forgot to take a picture for you! (Think ice cream sandwich but with a warm Cinnabon cut in half and stuffed with soft serve ice cream. You can now probably understand how I got distracted.) They have many other offerings on the menu so there are good reasons to return to this shop. Go here for the full scoop!

Fun Ice Cream Facts
Here’s a link from the kids version of the Guinness Book of World Records with some amazing ice cream related world records. Hope the kids have fun reading through them and just imagining how much ice cream these records involve!
