From June-September when it’s usually too hot to go play at the park, our local libraries are a welcome refuge and indoor option for parents and their stir crazy children. The libraries in Peoria have been specifically designed with this need in mind and are great places to visit regularly.

The children's area at the Sunrise Mountain Library is separated from the main library by a wall and is decorated to make it seem like you're at the beach or even submerged under the ocean. There are low, kid level tables scattered about with puzzles, toys and such so that young children can explore and play. While the kids should obviously not be running around and shouting, the sounds of kids having a nice time will bother no one. In the back left corner is the rack with the play and learning kits you can check out.

Go to the right and through the doors and there’s a wonderful outdoor space too. It’s fully shaded, has some greenery, seating, music making toy/instruments and is a great extension of the library space to take advantage of (weather permitting). And here they CAN run and shout!

Parents meet up with their friends at this library, kids in tow. Librarians hold regular story times and other kid friendly programs. Staff is trained to work with special needs children. And, for days when the sun’s not too strong, the library is located right next to a park with a splash pad and playground.
The Sunrise Mountain Library is a wonderful resource for families for many reasons besides all the interesting books! If you’d like to go, here’s their website: and address: 21109 N 98th Ave, Peoria, AZ 85382
