His name may not be as recognizable as Dr. Seuss but actually just about everyone knows about Roald Dahl!
He wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, Fantastic Mr. Fox and many more well loved children’s books that either you or your children are likely to have read. His birthday is September 13 and thus, we have that to look forward to as Roald Dahl Day.

His creative contributions to the world of children’s books can be celebrated in many ways.
- You can read one of his many books to your children (BTW, he also wrote adult books)
- Dress up as a favorite character
- Draw a picture of a favorite scene
- Gather the family together to come up with a story that’s inspired by his style of imagination and writing
- Watch one of the movies that has been made from his books (Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr. Fox, are a few of the more well known ones - libraries have many of them you can check out for free)
- Or check out any of these: #RoaldDahlStoryDay, #RoaldDahlDay, #ReadWithRoald
