Your Rainy Day Game Plan

By Lisa Franz, MacaroniKID Publisher: Surprise-Peoria-El Mirage October 10, 2025

The weatherman warned us and now the rain’s made it a little wet outside. Here are some ideas to keep your kids from going stir crazy at the house this weekend!

AT HOME YOU CAN...

  • Mix up a batch of candy filled popcorn (think Candy Corn, M&Ms, Cinnamon Red Hots…) and watch a Halloween movie together.
  • Make some salt dough and get a jump start on Holiday decorations and gifts (Handprints are always a hit with the grandparents!). I know it’s early, but why not take advantage of the chance to get a step ahead.
  • Read some books! There are 2 reading challenges your kids can participate in. One ties in with Surprise Library’s celebration of the 250th year of our country. The other is the Maricopa Library system’s 1000 Books before Kindergarten.
  • Get crafty and do some Halloween themed projects with Red Ted Art.
  • Roll your sleeves up and have the kids help you clean out the pantry/closet/junk drawer/toy box. Usually there’s no time for the task but maybe this weekend is your chance. Everyone loves that sense of accomplishment when you can check something off your To Do List!
  • It’s still warm out, so why not make some ice cream at home!
